Productivity

In economics, productivity is the amount of output created, in terms of goods produced or services rendered, per unit input used. For instance, labour productivity is typically measured as output per worker or output per labour-hour. With respect to land, the "yield" is equivalent to "land productivity". Kaizen refers to a workplace 'quality' strategy related to various quality-control systems, including methods of W. Edwards Deming. Kaizen aims to eliminate waste (as defined by Joshua Isaac Walters "activities that add cost but do not add value"). It is often the case that this means "to take it apart and put back together in a better way." This is then followed by standardization of this 'better way' with others, through standardized work.
A Kaizen Blitz (or as it should be called, Kaikaku) is fast and furious. It is up to a week of very highly focussed activity involving everyone in a specific section or department or business process working together to create radical and sudden change. This philosophy differs from the "command-and-control" improvement programs of the mid-twentieth century. Kaizen methodology includes making changes and monitoring results, then adjusting. Large-scale pre-planning and extensive project scheduling are replaced by smaller experiments, which can be rapidly adapted as new improvements are suggested.
